Background:

Dr. Derek Worley is proud to provide his services to his hometown community as the only fellowship-trained and board-certified primary care sports medicine physician in the entire Upper Cumberland region. He sees patients at Tier 1 Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Institute’s office in Cookeville, Tennessee.

Dr. Worley is a native of the Upper Cumberland region, having grown up in Livingston, Tennessee. He attended the University of Tennessee, where he majored in exercise science. Afterward, he attended medical school at St. George’s University. Upon completion of medical school, he did a residency in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He then went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship with Atlantic Health System, where he served as a fellow team physician for the New York Jets and Seton Hall University.

Since completion of training, Dr. Worley has served as a team physician for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Mocs, and numerous high schools. He has experience treating athletes at various levels, including pee-wee league, high school, collegiate, professional, and weekend warriors. Dr. Worley specializes in the management of sports injuries, fractures, osteoarthritis, and concussions. He is also trained in musculoskeletal ultrasound, which allows him to use these skills for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.

When not practicing medicine, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Sarah, who is an internal medicine primary care physician in Cookeville, as well as their two dogs, Tee and Jet. Dr. Worley and his wife enjoy exercising, attending sporting events and concerts, and traveling. They look forward to being involved in their new church community in Cookeville.
